Guided Composition

Read the dialogue between Helen and Halimah below:

Helen: My brother has to join national service next month.

Halimah: That's good. I can't wait for my turn!

Helen: My brother says that it's a waste of time. He is unwilling to go.

Halimah: I disagree with him. It's good for young people. We will be trained to be disciplined, independent and patriotic. During the three months, we gain new values and a different outlook. When we do, we will be more thoughtful of others and will not take things for granted.

Helen: Three months can do so much? I doubt it. I also think it is a waste of time. It won't achieve much. It also means that we can only to to college three months later. Some of use have health problems, so we may find the training too vigorous.
